How to append multiple classes to an element? JavaScript DOM

2020.10.10 22:55 VantaWitch How to append multiple classes to an element? JavaScript DOM

I'm sooo sorry if this is a massively newbie question, but I'm not quite sure how to search for this. Everything I find shows me how to append 1 class to an element. Essentially what I'm trying to do is convert this HTML to Javascript DOM:

Pompano Beach, US

Fri, August 4, 2020
This is what I have so far:
 var loc = document.createElement("SECTION"); loc.setAttribute("class", "location"); workspace.appendChild(loc); var city = document.createElement("DIV"); city.setAttribute("class", "city"); workspace.appendChild(city); let h3 = document.createElement('h3'); text = document.createTextNode("Pompano Beach, US"); h3.appendChild(text); workspace.getElementsByClassName("location").appendChild(h3);
Anything would be helpful!! Thank you!

2020.09.18 06:02 assessment_bot [ Fatal(2) ] [ 08/28/2020 ] Rockwell 500, Pembroke Park/ FL

On August 28, 2020, about 0902 eastern daylight time, an Aero Commander Aircraft 500-S, N900DT, was destroyed when it impacted a building near Pembroke Park, Florida. The commercial pilot and pilot-rated passenger were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 business flight.
According to preliminary Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ADS-B and audio information, after takeoff from Pompano Beach Airpark about 0852, the flight proceeded in a southeast direction to the shore, then flew in a south-southwest direction just offshore. About 0858, when the flight was about 13 nautical miles northeast from Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF), which was the destination, an occupant onboard the airplane contacted the OPF air traffic control tower (ATCT) and advised the controller that the flight was inbound. The flight was radar identified and continued in a south-southwest direction while climbing to 1,100 ft mean sea level (msl). At about 0859:49, or 1 minute 49 seconds after the initial contact with the OPF ATCT, an occupant advised the controller, "and uh november delta tango ah we have uh an engine problem, we [are going] to North Perry [Airport]." The OPF ATCT initially coordinated with Miami Approach and advised the facility that the flight was descending, with a last reported altitude of 300 ft. The controller then attempted to coordinate with North Perry ATCT.
About 0859:53, the airplane turned to a southwest direction, climbed to about 1250 ft msl. About that time a witness who was located about 2.8 nautical miles east-southeast of the flightpath when the airplane was flying in the southwest direction reported hearing the engines accelerating and decelerating which changed to a popping sound. The airplane continued flying and went out of his earshot.
The ADS-B data reflected that about 0900:47, the airplane turned and flew in a west-northwesterly direction until about 0901:58, when the flight proceeded in a north-northwest direction until near the accident site. Witnesses who were on a golf course north of the accident site reported seeing the airplane flying in a westerly direction with no reported engine sound. They then noted the airplane banked left and then descended. The airplane collided with the east face of a storage building in a densely populated area, then fell to the parking lot of the building. There were no reported ground injuries.
Preliminary examination of the accident site revealed an impact mark on the building which reflected the airplane being in a right bank. Examination of the wreckage revealed no evidence of pre or postimpact fire. The wreckage was recovered and retained for further examination.

2020.08.27 09:39 HauntedSpy SKs you never might've heard of: The USA

Greetings. For a long while now, I've been compiling and continue to compile a long list of SKs (convicted and suspected) across the world, which have yet to receive an article on Wikipedia. I haven't run a countdown, but I do believe it might count in the triple digits by now. Anyway, today I decided to share one individual SK for each US state and territory, with a little information and a linked article/source to their crimes. I hope you find this information as fascinating as I do. Let us begin. ALABAMA: Curtis Grantham (1988; 3 victims) Murdered two women in Phenix City, burying them in a wooded area in Seale. Later confessed to the October murder of 32-year-old Dawn Ball, previously thought to be a victim of Christopher Wilder. Sentenced to life imprisonment. ALASKA: Gary Zieger (1971-1973; 6+ victims) Doubling as a member of a motorcycle gang who was paid to kill people, Zieger is also thought to be responsible for murdering at least three female hitchhikers around Anchorage. The true extents of his crimes remains unclear, and he himself was murdered along the Seward Highway in 1973. AMERICAN SAMOA: None to my knowledge ARIZONA: Michael Carlson (2003-2009; 3-9 victims) Shot dead his sister in Tucson in 2003, and later murdered a couple in Marana. Confessed to 9 murders in total, but his other victims, if there are any, haven't been found. Sentenced to death. ARKANSAS: Randy Gay (1978-2011; 3 victims) Murdered his father-in-law in 1978, served time and released. Murdered his father in 1991, released again. And finally, murdered a woman and dumped her body at Ouachita National Forest in 2011. Sentenced to death. CALIFORNIA: Pittsburg serial killer (1998-1999; 4 victims) Within a two-month period, four young women were killed in this little, tightly-knit community. It is believed that it's a work of a serial offender, and the Pittsburg police are searching for clues to catch him. Unidentified. COLORADO: Ronald Lee White (1987-1988; 3-16 victims) Murdered roommate and two other men in disputes/robberies, mostly surrounding Pueblo. Later confessed that he has killed 16 victims in total. Authorities believe that at least four cold cases around the state could be tied to him. Sentenced to life imprisonment. CONNECTICUT: Zackery Cody Franklin (2007-2011; 4 victims) Murdered four men around New Haven for mostly robbery purposes. Originally convicted for two homicides, later connected to the other two. Sentenced to life imprisonment. D.C.: Greg Brice (1994-1996; 4 victims) Shot two men in two separate instances for personal disputes. Escaped confinement in December 1995, and a few months later, murdered two men. Recaptured, and sentenced to long imprisonment terms. DELAWARE: James Gordy (unknown-1897; 1-4 victims) Battered his wife to death with an oar in 1897; suspected in the suspicious deaths of his father, ex-wife and their child. Executed in Georgetown in 1897. FLORIDA: Leon Holston (1964-1966; 4 victims) Murdered four young boys in Pompano Beach, while he himself was still a teenager. Sentenced to death, commuted to life imprisonment. GEORGIA: John Robinson (unknown-1901; 1-6 victims) Known as "The Colored Ripper", he was executed for the strangulation murder of a young black woman in Laurens County, whose body he viciously mutilated after. Five other similar murders were suspected to be his doing, but never proven. Executed in Dublin in 1902. GUAM: None to my knowledge HAWAII: Robert Mark Edwards (1986-1994; 2+ victims) Convicted of raping, robbing and murdering two female realtors, one in Los Alamitos, CA, and the other in Kihei, HI. The gap between his crimes, and their severity, leads me to believe he might have other victims, likely in California. Sentenced to death in California and life imprisonment in Hawaii. IDAHO: Gerald Pizzuto (1985; 4 victims) Murdered a woman and a man in Seattle, WA during robberies. Later moved to Boise, ID, where he murdered a couple in a remote cabin. Sentenced to death in Idaho. ILLINOIS: Michael A. Johnson, Jr. (2008-2010; 4 victims) Rapist who abused and murderd young women in Chicago. It's peculiar to note that he strangled them with a deformed right hand, which was missing three fingers. Sentenced to life imprisonment. INDIANA: Anna Cunningham (1918-1922; 5 victims) Poisoned her family members with arsenic in Gary. Sentenced to life imprisonment for one murder, but later paroled for unspecified reasons. Died a free woman in 1945. IOWA: Donald Piper (1993-1998; 2-4 victims) Hotel maintenance chief who stabbed and strangled two women in Des Moines, and is suspected of another two similar killings during that time period. Sentenced to life imprisonment. KANSAS: Mary Troy (1909; 3+ victims) Murdered at least three children in Topeka, all of whom were entrusted in her care. Possibly responsible for half a dozen similar deaths. Fate unknown. KENTUCKY: Michael Abner (1983-2010; 3 victims) Following his arrest for the stabbing death of an elderly man in Pulaski County, he confessed to two cold cases involving strangulation of old women, in 1983 and 1988. Sentenced to life imprisonment. LOUISIANA: Edward Augustine (2007-2011; 3 victims) Involved in a fatal car crash while driving a stolen vehicle in New Orleans, charges dismissed. Later, he and another man killed two men in Jefferson Parish. Rearrested and serving a 40-year prison term. MAINE: Constance Fisher (1954-1966; 6 victims) Mentally-ill woman who drowned six children, three each on two separate occassions, in Waterville. Confined to a mental hospital, but managed to escape and later drowned herself in the Kennebec River in 1973. MARYLAND: Patrick McCullough (1980-2001; 3 victims) Deaf man who murdered two employers (1980 and 1982) in Annapolis, and later his girlfriend in Waldorf (2001). After killing her, he shot himself through the head. MASSACHUSETTS: John Monteiro (2007-2010; 3 victims) Rhode Island man who murdered a man in Brockton in July 2007, and later shot a brother and sister to death. Sentenced to life imprisonment. MICHIGAN: Paul Harrington (1975-1999; 5 victims) Former Detroit police officer who shot his ex-wife and two children in 1975; sent to mental institution and released after two years. After living a relatively peaceful life for many years, he was fired from his job and stopped taking his medication, leading to him killing his new wife and son in 1999. Sentenced to life imprisonment. MINNESOTA: David Torgerson (1969-1973; 6+ victims) Murdered two Minneapolis women in 1969 on separate occassions, and later on, his wife, two children and the babysitter in Rochester. Suspected of more murders since the 1950s. Hanged himself before trial for killing his family. MISSISSIPPI: Columbus elderly murderer (1996-1998; 4-5 victims) In two years, five elderly people were murdered in Columbus. Three years ago, DNA evidence snatched a man named David Solomon Murray, from Pine Bluff, AR, as the killer of one of the victims, but we're yet to see if he's responsible for the others. Unresolved case. MISSOURI: John Wesley Robinson (1896-1913; 3 victims) Strangled a woman in St. Louis and later buried her corpse under the floorboards. Arrested, served 11 years and released. In 1913, he murdered his wife (April 11th) and his stepdaughter (May 17th), dismembering each body and burning the remains in the stove or burying them. Executed in Kansas City in 1915. MONTANA: Ah Yung (unknown-1883; 1-17) Chinese immigrant who murdered a paymaster in Missoula. Authorities suspected he killed a total of seventeen people (two white men and fifteen Chinese), but not much information is available about them. Executed in Missoula in 1883. NEBRASKA: Clarence Victor (1964-1988; 3 victims) Mentally-disabled man who murdered an elderly woman in her Omaha home. Had previous convictions for manslaughter and murder, in 1964 and 1976, respectively. Died in prison. Sentenced to life imprisonment. NEW MEXICO: Clifton Bloomfield (2005-2008; 5 victims) Murdered five people around the state, including a couple. In 2018, he was aided in a prison escape by a guard, but was recaptured. Sentenced to life imprisonment. NEW YORK: Dmitriy Yakovlev (2003-2007; 3 victims) Russian immigrant who, together with his wife, killed three other Russian emigrants in Brooklyn so he could steal their possessions and bank cards, which he later sold off. Sentenced to life imprisonment. NORTH CAROLINA: Herman Allen (1930-1942; 4 victims) First murdered a boarder in his Johnston County home because he believed he was having an affair with his wife. Convicted of manslaughter and released 11 years later, still believing that people were oogling after his wife, he shot to death his wife, brother-in-law and a man he believed to have been courting her. Executed in 1942. NORTH DAKOTA: Floyd Tapson (1987-1996; 0-3+ victims) Suspected, but not convicted, in killing disabled women at group homes, two in MN (Moorhead and Wadena) and one in Grand Forks. Escaped prison with a convicted bank robber, but later recaptured. Suspect in as many as 30 murders in Oregon and Washington State. Sentenced to life imprisonment. PENNSYLVANIA: Jermaine Burgess (2008: 2+ victims) Career criminal who robbed and murdered two elderly women in Ridley Township and Upper Darby (October 27th and November 10th, respectively). Authorities believe he has committed other murders as well. Sentenced to life imprisonment. PUERTO RICO: Ángel Colón Maldonado (1985-1987; 27 victims) Known as "The Angel of the Bachelors", he lured men for sexual favors, and after he was given various luxurious items, he killed his lovers. Fled to the continental states, but was quickly recaptured. Sentenced to life imprisonment. RHODE ISLAND: Jeffrey Mailhot (2003-2004; 3 victims) Known as "The Rhode Island Ripper", he strangled and then dismembered three prostitutes in his hometown of Woonsocket. Sentenced to life imprisonment. SOUTH CAROLINA: Joseph Ernest Atkins (1969-1986; 3 victims) Shot his brother in North Charleston in 1969. Sentenced to life imprisonment, but his father pleaded for his release, and he was paroled in 1980. Six years later, as an act of gratitude, he shot his father and a 13-year-old neighbor on October 27, 1986. Executed in 1999. SOUTH DAKOTA: Rapid City Creek Drownings (1998-2000; 0-11+ victims) Suspicious deaths of homeless men in Rapid City, six of whom were Native Americans. They stopped just as mysteriously as they began, and authorities believe that they were possibly murdered by a serial offender who might've moved away, presumably to Denver, CO. Unsolved. TENNESSEE: Michael Mullins (1999-2012; 3+ victims) Career criminal and serial rapist who beat and strangled elderly women in Memphis. Strong possibility of additional murders and assaults committed by him. Sentenced to life imprisonment. TEXAS: Tommy Lee Stewart (1971-1986; 3 victims) Abducted and killed a woman in Waco in 1971. Released from prison in 1986 and moved to Port Arthur, where he later murdered a mother and child. Sentenced to life imprisonment. U.S. Virgin Islands: St. Croix Voodoo Poisonings (1984-1988; 5 victims) Five people were poisoned in St. Croix with cyanide, in what appears to be ritualistic slayings. Police suspect a conman, posing as an 'obeah man' (a type of shaman), to be behind the murders. Unsolved. UTAH: Thomas Noffsinger (1989-1990; 3 victims) Strangled and raped two women two months apart in Millcreek and Sandy, and later stabbed a Salt Lake City chef to death in 1990. Sentenced to life imprisonment. VERMONT: Gary Lee Schaefer (1979-1983; 3+ victims) Springfield automechanic who raped and strangled three girls in his hometown. At one time suspected to be responsible for other murders, but this hasn't been proven so far. Sentenced to life imprisonment. VIRGINIA: Walter Cotton and Brandt O'Grady (1898-1900; in the dozens, couldn't determine exact number) An unlikely pair considering the time period (black man and Irish immigrant) who robbed and murdered people around the state, mostly around Emporia. Both were lynched at Greensville by an angry mob in 1900. WASHINGTON: Donna Perry (1990; 3 victims) Known as "The .22 Caliber Killer", who killed three prostitutes in Seattle between February and March 1990. Interestingly, Perry is one of the few known transsexual SKs on record, committing the murders when she still identified as a man. Sentenced to life imprisonment. WEST VIRGINIA: Joseph Eisele (1867; 3 victims) German/Swiss immigrant known as 'The Parkersburg Murderer' who murdered three fellow immigrants for robbery purposes across the state between June and December. Interestingly, another self-confessed SK, Thomas D. Carr, admitted to being his accomplice in one murder, but this was unsubstantiated. Executed in Parkersburg in 1868. WISCONSIN: Alvin Taylor (1985-1988; 4 victims) Nightclub singer who murdered three men in Dunn and Eau Claire Counties, as well as one in the state of Minnesota. Sentenced to psychiatric treatment. WYOMING: Rawlins Rodeo Murders (1974; 4 victims) Over the summer, four young girls disappeared from rodeos in the small town of Rawlins. Only one body was found nine years later in Sinclair, while the others remain missing and are presumed dead. Royal Russell Long, a convicted kidnapper additionally suspected of killing two Oklahoma girls in the 1980s, is the prime suspect, although some theorize Ted Bundy might've been involved. Unsolved.

2020.08.01 21:56 robertw477 Costco Frustrations Of A Long Time Customer

There are a few things that really annoy me shopping at Costco. I also feel these changes would only increase sales for them overall. As you walk into a Costco store in 2020, other than the current Covid-19 situation, there is little change to the store since around 1990. Its like a time warp back to ancient retailing. Zero WIFI in the store. I mention this because for some reason my cell phone has some dead spots in two different locations. Why I have no idea. On occasion, you want to look up a review of an item or something before committing to a large food item or something. This is clearly intentional on their part, is that a major cost for them? Store Hours- Even in peak Christmas season store hours remain the same. I know of no other major store that doesnt have some extended hours. Technology is non-existant with Costco. They think its cute and funny. So homespun. But it isnt. Their website although slightly better is poorly executed. That costs them alot of lost sales. With some smart people involved, they could increase those sales in a major way. We are in the Covid-19 world. Zero ability to place an order online and pick up in any way, I realize everything costs money, but some way to get items in an easier /faster way only helps them. I realize the navigation of the store is another cute marketing thing. But realize a customer like me doesnt want to spend unneeded time inside a store again (Covid-19) So I dont buy what I cant see or find. Other than the electronic membership card, they dont embrace any customer improvements that I can think of. I realize some might think, if it isnt broke why mess, but we are in far different times in 2020, 2021 and maybe beyond. Some considerations should be made or tested. There was a special on CNBC filmed with the Costco founder JI Senigal many years ago. Filmed in Pompano Beach, Fl one of their oldest stores. The show is a little dated. If you can watch it or find it on Youtube, watch and see its the same operation.

2020.07.15 01:02 assessment_bot [ Non-Fatal ] [ 06/25/2020 ] Bell 206, Coconut Creek/ FL

On June 25, 2020, about 1200 eastern daylight time, a Bell 206-L1 helicopter, N5013G, was involved in an accident at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, Florida. The commercial pilot was seriously injured. The flight was conducted under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 133.
According to the owneoperator and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aviation safety inspectors on site, the purpose of the flight was for the pilot to perform external load operations with a 100-ft long line over wooded terrain. The external loads lifted and placed by the helicopter included bags of stone and sections of pipe for a drainage project inside the park.
In a written statement, the pilot stated he checked "fuel status and aircraft systems" prior to hovering the load into position. At that time, he estimated "between 65 and 70 pounds [of fuel], telling me I had approximately 10-15 minutes of operational time remaining to complete the load." The pilot hovered the helicopter to maintain a 4-foot load height "to assist the ground crew with releasing the material from the bag." He said the task focused "all of his attention" when he heard the "sound of my engine flame out/failing and complete loss of power to maintain flight." The pilot said that he maneuvered the helicopter into the wind and away from the ground crew for the forced landing and made a full collective application prior to entering the trees.
The helicopter came to rest upright with substantial damage to the fuselage and tailboom.
According to FAA records, the helicopter was manufactured in 1979 and was powered by a Rolls-Royce 250 C30P 650 shaft -horsepower, turbo-shaft engine. Its most recent 100-hour inspection was completed January 17, 2020 at 17,638.8 total aircraft hours.
At 1955, the weather recorded at Pompano Beach Airpark (6A2) 4 miles southeast of the accident site included few clouds at 2,100 feet and winds from 100 degrees at 7 knots.
The helicopter was examined by an FAA aviation safety inspector at the site immediately after the accident. There was no odor of fuel, and no evidence of fuel spillage at the scene. The extended-range fuel device was removed, and visual inspection of the fuel tank revealed no fuel. The inspector then sumped the fuel system per the manufacturer's Rotorcraft Flight Manual and recovered no fuel. During recovery of the helicopter, the recovery crew inserted a defueling hose in the main tank and activated a pump to recover all residual fuel and no fuel was recovered. Control continuity was confirmed through some fractures to all flight control surfaces. The fractures displayed features consistent with overstress.
The helicopter was retained for further examination.

2020.03.04 07:04 assessment_bot [ Non-Fatal ] [ 01/25/2020 ] Beech A36, Summerland Key/ FL

On January 25, 2020, about 1535 eastern standard time, a Beech A36, N41VK, was substantially damaged when it collided with trees during a rejected takeoff from Summerland Key Cove Airport (FD51), Summerland Key, Florida. The private pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and an instrument flight rules flight plan was filed but not activated for the flight that was originating at the time of the accident. The flight was destined for Pompano Beach Airpark, Pompano Beach, Florida.
The pilot stated that following a preflight inspection of the airplane he started the engine and taxied to the run-up area of runway 30, where he performed an engine run-up, then announced on the common traffic advisory frequency that he would be departing runway 30. He taxied into position, applied full throttle while holding the brakes, then released the brakes and began the takeoff roll. As the airplane gained airspeed he noticed that it was nosing down applied nose-up trim to assist. At that time the indicated airspeed was 85 knots (normal rotation speed was 80 knots). He pulled on the yoke twice and felt considerable resistance. He then aborted the takeoff by applying full brakes and reducing the throttle; however, there was insufficient runway remaining to stop. With the end of the runway and a canal approaching, he continued full braking and applied hard left rudder. Though the airplane slowed, he was unable to stop prior to contacting small trees west of the end of the runway.
The airplane was recovered for further examination.

2020.01.01 01:52 FOHADDAR Disaster planning the Wedding venue

I didn't know where else to post this, Figured do my first Post on Reddit.
www.Oceanicpompano.com
My Fiance and I got Engaged November 29th 2019 at Epcot in Disney World! It was soon after that everyone started asking if we had a date set or a venue picked. We quickly went through some of our favorite places and set upon Oceanic in Pompano Beach. We reached out through their site on 12/17/2019 that we could visit Jen Saperstein who is the sales and event manager at Oceanic on 12/21/2019 anytime after 1pm.
Now we've eaten at the restaurant for Brunch when it opened, so we had an idea of how the location looked at its food quality. We knew from what we had already that the food was good but at that point, we had not seen the top floor event space, as its only used for events. Once we arrived we were met by Jen and taken to the above floor to look at the space. Once we entered the room it has a large outside bar and outside ocean view area that can be split into two separate rooms. The smaller one has the best view of the soon to be completed Pompano Pier and views of the Atlantic Ocean, they call this the south side. Its a smaller space, but again the view is the best. It still can hold about 60 people in this smaller event space. The "North side" is much larger but its view is a wall of the adjacent "Beach House" that is so close to Oceanic that you could almost reach out and touch the building. It has direct views of the Atlantic Ocean, but has no outside bar like the "South Side"
Presently their chairs have some rust on them for the outside area, that they said would be replaced before our wedding day in December 2020. Jen also mentioned that the interior chairs that are plastic and gray would be getting replaced by that time with metal. We told Jen the date we had in mind for our wedding and she stated that she thought an afternoon start point would be good so we could get all the views from the sunlight to sunset. Before leaving she said that it was very popular first year and that some people had already reached out to her schedule next years events again for 2020. She said for us she would contact us to let us know before booking anyone else on our day. So after viewing the event space we went back downstairs and decided to have lunch and talk about our decision. (Just like our first visit our food was very good. ) As soon as we got home (same day 12/21/19) we sent Jen an email with our phone number that we appreciated her time and loved the venue. We told her we wanted to move forward with reserving the south side for our reception so we could secure the day and time.
On 12/23/19 Jen Saperstein responded and said great! That she would be forwarding an event agreement today with the link for the deposit. Excited seeing all of our family we told our families over Christmas we picked a venue and a date, everyone was so excited for us. We still had not received an email from Jen or Oceanic for the agreement, but we thought maybe the holidays and would get it later.
However, we never received that email. Not until 12/26/19 did we get an email apologizing for the delay in getting the event agreement to us. She then asked if we could confirm the number of guests and start time for reception. We replied that we were planning on 60 people and that we would do the afternoon as we spoke about to get the sunlight and views before diner so around 4pm.
It seems impossible to get any timely responses from Jen, Its never a response within an hour or couple hours it takes days. She responded on 12/27/19 letting us know that now they have a daytime event at 4pm. Could we do 6pm Start time. She said at 6pm we would still have plenty of day light. (Keep in mind its December and the sun sets early now, according to Weather.com it shows sunset at 5:36pm so I am not sure how we have plenty of day light.) She replied that she has to be mindful of daytime events and she was sorry if she was misleading. We followed up asking if we could secure day and night at the location so we could have the start time we all discussed in person. As usual, she did not respond until 12/30/19 as we asked if we could speak to her on 12/27/19 in regards to this.
Ok, now that I have gone through this whole ordeal with anyone that is still reading, my Fiance was devastated, sad, angry and embarrassed. Communication with Jen Saperstein has been terrible, she told us she would let us know if anyone else was interested in the event since we were already in talks for the date, that never happened. They never even sent over the agreement, which they said they were going to do the day we told them we were moving forward. We feel like our special date means nothing, we still haven't spoke to Jen on the phone once, she never reached out to us when this was all happening. You would think she would have called us when we asked for a call because of the start date issues because my fiance was distraught upon finding out our time was NOW no longer available. This is supposed to be one of the easier parts of our wedding, locking down the venue. How could we even have confidence about them handling our most special day. I write and detailed this to this extreme so that anyone else that plans or thinks of hosting their special event, will most definitely not do it as Oceanic Pompano. I've included pictures/links to all of our emails so people can see the correspondence (or lack of it)
I just can't believe how upset that the owner of the property would be about reading this. We had planned to max out the space which is limited to 60, and pick the upper tier dining plan, we most certainly again recommend to AVOID Oceanic for your events.
Thank you to everyone who reads,
Peter

Thank you to everyone who reads,
Peter

Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy (January 23, 1998 – June 18, 2018), known professionally as XXXTentacion[a] (/ˌɛksˌɛksˌɛksˌtɛntəˈsjɒn/),[10] was an American rapper, singer and songwriter. Although a controversial figure within the hip hop industry, Onfroy has been regarded to have left behind "a huge musical footprint" due to his impact on his young fanbase and his popularity during his short career.[11] The most notable aspects of his appearance were his tattoos and his distinctive half-colored hair, which was inspired by the One Hundred and One Dalmatians antagonist Cruella de Vil.[12]

Born in Plantation, Florida, Onfroy spent most of his childhood in Lauderhill. He began writing music after being released from a juvenile detention center[13] and started his music career on SoundCloud in 2013,[14] where he soon became a popular figure in SoundCloud rap, a trap scene that takes elements of lo-fi music and harsh 808s.[15][16][17] Onfroy rose to mainstream fame with the single "Look at Me" which is now certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[18]
Onfroy's debut album, 17 (2017), debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200, receiving a mixed response from critics, some of which lauded the album for its personal narratives and diverse musical style. On August 15, 2018, the album was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. His second album, ? (2018), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, with its singles "Sad!", "Changes" and "Moonlight" all reaching the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, and the album was certified Platinum. In the week following his death, Onfroy's highest-charting single, "Sad!", went from 52nd to 1st on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first artist to top the Hot 100 posthumously since The Notorious B.I.G., with "Mo Money Mo Problems", in 1997. A few months after his death, he won the Best New Hip Hop Artist at the BET Hip Hop Awards and won the Favourite Album-Soul/R&B for 17 at the American Music Awards.[19][20] Onfroy's third studio album, Skins, was posthumously released in December 2018.[21][22]
On June 18, 2018, Onfroy was fatally shot at the age of 20, in a robbery at a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida.[23] The attackers fled the scene in an SUV after stealing a Louis Vuitton bag containing $50,000 from Onfroy; four suspects were arrested and are currently awaiting trial.[24] On June 18, 2019, one year on from Onfroy's death, an official documentary on his life was announced. It will feature footage of Onfroy from before his death telling biographical details. At the same time, Onfroy's estate announced a new posthumous album.[25]
Early life
Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy was born on January 23, 1998, in Plantation, Florida, to Jamaican parents, Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy and Cleopatra Eretha Dreena Bernard.[26][27] XXXTentacion has stated he has Egyptian, Syrian, Indian and possibly Italian ancestry in an interview on The Beat in 2017.[28] He had three siblings with one being half, shared paternally.[29] XXXTentacion was mainly raised by his grandmother Collette Jones[30]—due to his mother's personal problems[31]—in Pompano Beach, Florida, and Lauderhill, Florida. When Onfroy was six years old, he tried to stab a man attempting to attack his mother[31] and was eventually put into a youth program before being forced[clarification needed] to live with his grandmother.[27]
XXXTentacion's interest in music initially started after his aunt persuaded him to begin attending school choir and later church choir. He was soon kicked out of the school choir after attacking another student.[10] XXXTentacion attended Margate Middle School[30] from which he was later expelled after a series of physical altercations. He was subsequently enrolled into Sheridan House Family Ministries by his mother for over six months.[10] XXXTentacion began to listen to nu-metal, hard rock and rap during his time at Sheridan House Family Ministries, which led to him to learn the piano and guitar.[31]
XXXTentacion attended Piper High School until he dropped out in the tenth grade.[32] He described himself as a "misfit" during that time, citing how quiet he was despite being popular and regularly involved in physical confrontations.[33] XXXTentacion was not the athletic type and said that he was insecure and depressed during his time in high school.[27]
Career beginnings and "Look at Me" (2013–16)
XXXTentacion's career as a music artist began in June 2013 after the release of his song "News/Flock".[14] While in juvenile detention for gun possession charges, he met Stokeley Clevon Goulbourne,[34] another artist known as Ski Mask the Slump God. During their time together, XXXTentacion and Goulbourne became good friends and began freestyling.[35] Recalling his time in detention, XXXTentacion said that he was respectful to the officers and staff and used to protect people from other inmates, including a homosexual cellmate, whom Onfroy later attacked for allegedly staring at him while he was changing clothes.[10][36]
That same year, following his release from a juvenile detention center, he and Goulbourne met up again under the belief they were going to commit a string of home invasions for monetary gain[37] though XXXTentacion eventually bought a Blue Snowball microphone and began recording music,[35] which convinced Stokeley to do the same. After Onfroy adopted the moniker XXXTentacion, he uploaded his first official song, called "Vice City", on SoundCloud.[38] Speaking on his decision to abandon a life of crime for music, Onfroy said that he felt like music was a better outlet for his feelings and then-girlfriend Geneva Ayala was someone who helped him realize that.[27] He would then continue uploading small snippets of his songs that he would either soon release or keep unreleased. Onfroy eventually joined Ski Mask the Slump God's group Very Rare, before breaking off and starting the Members Only collective, which Ski Mask then also joined.[13] The word "tentación" in his stage name is the Spanish word for "temptation".[39][40]
Onfroy released his first official extended play (EP), called The Fall, on November 21, 2014.[41] In 2015, Onfroy released a collaborative mixtape with Ski Mask the Slump God, Members Only Vol. 1, before releasing Members Only Vol. 2 with several members of the growing Members Only collective. On December 30, 2015, the original version of "Look at Me" was uploaded to the SoundCloud account of the song's co-producer, Rojas.[42]
On April 28, 2016, Onfroy released the EP Willy Wonka Was a Child Murderer,[43] with music heavily inspired by heavy metal and indie music. In 2016, Onfroy quit his job as a call center operator due to his growing music career[32] and moved in with rapper Denzel Curry.[44] In July 2016, Onfroy was arrested and charged with robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.[45][46] After posting $10,000 bail, Onfroy continued to work on his debut independent album, Bad Vibes Forever, which had a slated October 31, 2016, release date.[27] The album missed the release date and was delayed due to Onfroy being arrested in early October on charges of false imprisonment, witness tampering and aggravated battery of his pregnant girlfriend.[47]
Release from prison, Revenge, 17, and A Ghetto Christmas Carol (2017)
In 2017 "Look at Me" gained traction, peaked at number 34 on US Billboard Hot 100 and the top 40 of the Canadian Hot 100.[48] The single helped him gain more popularity due to accusations of Canadian rapper Drake using a similar rap flow in his song "KMT".[49][50] During his jail stint, Onfroy signed a deal to be managed by Soloman Sobande (who would remain his manager until his death) and despite Onfroy being in jail during "Look at Me"'s initial breakthrough, major-label scouts began offering six-figure contracts and Onfroy eventually signed for Empire Distribution for lower royalty rate, full creative control and a smaller upfront payment.[51][52]
After his release from prison on April 18, 2017, he released three more songs on SoundCloud.[53] In an interview with WMIB, Onfroy announced that he was working on the studio albums Bad Vibes and 17; as well as a mixtape, I Need Jesus.[54][55] In an interview three days after his release from prison, Onfroy said to XXL, "I got this really, really, really good album called 17. That's more of an alternative, R&B sound—then I've got this mixtape called I Need Jesus, which is mainly rap and the underground sound I did."[56]
Onfroy announced his first nationwide tour on April 28, 2017. The tour, titled "The Revenge Tour", had 26 tour dates overall and generated much media coverage, included that of a rapper being assaulted,[57] Onfroy being knocked out after an altercation on stage,[58] an audience member being stabbed,[59] Onfroy being thrown into a barricade by security,[60] and Onfroy punching a fan.[61] He announced the cancellation of the rest of the tour dates due to his cousin being shot on June 24, 2017,[62] though the final tour date in Broward County, Florida, still went ahead[63] and was later streamed on the watchthemusic (WAV) app.[64]
Onfroy was named as the tenth pick on XXL's "2017 Freshman Class".[65]
Onfroy released his debut solo mixtape, Revenge, on May 16, 2017. The mixtape consists of eight previously released songs.[66] The collaborative mixtape, Members Only, Vol. 3, with Members Only, was released on June 26, 2017.
Onfroy's first opener for a major act happened when DRAM brought Onfroy out at a concert on April 9, 2017 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles during Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. Tour.[67]
Onfroy released his debut album, 17, on August 25, 2017.[68] The album debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200, selling 86,000 album-equivalent units first week.[69] The album received a mixed response from critics, some of whom lauded the album for its personal narratives and diverse musical style.[70] On September 3, 2017, Onfroy announced that Bad Vibes Forever, his second album, was still in production.[71] 17 gave Onfroy's seven songs—"Jocelyn Flores", "Revenge", "Fuck Love", "Everybody Dies in Their Nightmares", "Depression & Obsession", "Save Me" and "Carry On"—that debuted in the Billboard Hot 100 at number 31, 77, 41, 54, 91, 94 and 95, respectively. Jocelyn Flores became Onfroy's highest-charting song since "Look at Me", which peaked it at 34.[72] Onfroy then had his ninth song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, in turn with his being featured on Kodak Black's song "Roll in Peace", taken from Project Baby 2. The song debuted at 52 and peaked at 31, matching "Jocelyn Flores."[73]
On September 12, 2017, Onfroy released his first official music video for his 2015 song "Look at Me", as well as sharing a music video with his 2015 song "Riot".[74] The song generated controversy hours after being posted due to the video depicting a white child being hanged by Onfroy, as another black child observed. The music video was removed from YouTube months later.[75] Onfroy's label, Bad Vibes Forever, signed a distribution deal with Capitol Music Group subsidiary, Caroline, on October 19, 2017. The deal, reportedly worth $6 million, was for one album only.[76] Shortly afterwards on October 25, 2017, Onfroy announced he was terminating his contract with Caroline[77] despite a representative confirming he was still signed.[78] Two days later, he announced that he was retiring due to negativity and backlash[79] though some publications noted that Onfroy made similar statements before and not followed through.[80] On October 30, 2017, Onfroy announced that he would make music again if fellow Broward rapper and "former best friend," Ski Mask the Slump God, was his friend again.[81] Later, Onfroy answered a fan's question on Instagram Live about his retirement, saying, "Am I quitting? Yes, I'm quitting—I don't know for how long, but I'm just not going to make music right now."[82]
On September 21, 2017, Noah Cyrus released her single titled "Again", featuring Onfroy's vocals.[83]
Onfroy previewed new music on November 2, 2017, signaling a return to making music.[84] Onfroy announced a new album titled Bad Vibes Forever on November 17, 2017,[85] speaking on the album, Onfroy said "It will be a mix of genres you have seen me dabble with, if you are not a fan of me this is not an album for you, it is for core fans only".[86] The album title shares its name with his label.[87] On December 11, 2017, Onfroy released the A Ghetto Christmas Carol EP on SoundCloud.[88] A day before his hearing for witness tampering charges, Onfroy announced that he was preparing three albums to be ready for 2018,[89] and after being released on house arrest, he announced the titles of all three albums, Skins, Bad Vibes Forever and ?.[90]
YouTube channel and ? album (2018)
On June 22, 2015, Onfroy began to use his long-time YouTube channel "xxxtentacion" (now stylized in all caps), previously used to upload music, to upload gaming videos and vlogs.[91] The channel has 13 million subscribers and 2.6 billion total views as of October 2018.[92] On January 22, 2018, Onfroy announced on Instagram that he and New York rapper Joey Badass had been creating a project together[93] and the two released a freestyle to the song "King's Dead" on SoundCloud on March 9, 2018, in preparation for the collaboration.[94] The "xxxtentacion" YouTube channel uploaded the video "#THEHELPINGHANDCHALLENGE" on the same day. The video included Onfroy donating musical instruments, video game consoles, and other gifts to a foster home.[95] Shortly afterwards, Onfroy declared his album had finished and he was preparing to release it but would only do so after the hashtag #HELPINGHANDCHALLENGE reached one million mentions on Instagram.[96]
Onfroy released his first single of 2018 on February 2, titled "Shining Like the Northstar".[97] He was also featured on long-time collaborator and producer Ronny J's track "Banded Up".[98] Onfroy released the song "Hope" on his SoundCloud account on February 21, 2018, dedicated to the victims of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, which had occurred in Parkland, several miles north of Onfroy's native Plantation.[99] Onfroy announced that he was releasing two songs at midnight on March 2, 2018, both the first singles for his upcoming album ?.[100] The lead single for ?, "Sad!", was released several hours later[101] alongside "Changes", which features fellow 2017 XXL "Freshman" PnB Rock.[102] "Sad!" debuted at number 17, becoming his highest-charting song in the United States, and eventually peaked at number 1 after Onfroy's death before releasing its official music video on June 28.[103] "Moonlight" and "Hope" also charted after his death, peaking at number 13 and 70.
Onfroy announced the release date for his second studio album, ?, on March 12, 2018.[104] He shared the 18 track track-list with features from Joey Bada$$, Travis Barker and PnB Rock.[105] ? was released on March 16, 2018.[106] ? debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, becoming Onfroy's first number one in the country, losing out with his debut album 17 due to Lil Uzi Vert's Luv Is Rage 2.[107] Shortly following the release of ?, Onfroy signed a new album deal with Empire Distribution for his third solo album worth ten million dollars.[51]
Posthumous releases
On June 21, 2018, the first posthumous song featuring Onfroy was released, "Ghost Busters", with Trippie Redd featuring Quavo and Ski Mask the Slump God, and was uploaded on Trippie Redd's SoundCloud.[108] XXL released a series of freestyles that Onfroy performed as a part of his "2017 Freshman Cypher".[109] Ugly God released a song titled "Tear Drop" on June 22, 2018, which featured Onfroy's aforementioned unreleased cypher verses, as a tribute to Onfroy.[110] A few months later, he won the Best New Hip Hop Artist at the BET Hip Hop Awards and won the Favourite Album-Soul/R&B for 17 at the American Music Awards.[111][112]

On August 17, 2018, iLoveMakonnen announced a collaboration between Lil Peep and Onfroy titled "Falling Down". A reworking of "Sunlight on Your Skin" made by Makonnen and Peep, the new version features verses by Onfroy that he recorded after Peep's death to pay tribute to Peep.[114] The single was officially released on September 19, 2018.[115]
On September 27, 2018, Kanye West announced Onfroy will be a featured artist on his ninth studio album, Yandhi.[116] The same day, it was reported that Onfroy will also be a featured artist on Lil Wayne's twelfth album, Tha Carter V, which was released the next day. Onfroy was featured on the song, "Don't Cry". A music video was later released on what would've been Onfroy’s 21st birthday.[117]
On October 22, 2018, Onfroy's manager Soloman Sobande stated in an interview with Billboard that Onfroy's third album would come "very soon" and that he had more than two album's worth of material.[52] On October 25, 2018, EDM DJ-producer Skrillex released the song "Arms Around You", which is a collaboration he made with Onfroy, Lil Pump, Maluma and Swae Lee.[118] The track was originally recorded in 2017 with Rio Santana, who appeared on Onfroy's ? album, but was later changed to add bigger star co-features.[119] Specifically, Lil Pump contacted Onfroy's mother to ask to use Onfroy's vocals on the track as a tribute.[120] Following the release of "Arms Around You", the song's producer, Mally Mall was interviewed by Power 106's The Cruz Show where he confirmed that nine Onfroy song's were going to be released soon with one having a Rihanna feature and another having a Weeknd feature.[121]
On November 8, 2018, the release date for Onfroy's first posthumous album and his third studio album, Skins, was announced as being given a December 7, 2018.[122] The first single from Skins, titled "Bad!", was released on November 9, 2018.[123] Onfroy is featured on Lil Wayne and Ty Dolla Sign's track "Scared of the Dark" from the soundtrack album Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

A month after on July 21, 2019, another posthumous song was released, titled "Royalty", which featured one of Bob Marley's children, Ky-Mani Marley, Stefflon Don, & Vybz Kartel. The dance-hall inspired[126] track was the first song released from the upcoming album, "Bad Vibes Forever, which is releasing in Fall, 2019.[127]
On October 21, 2019, the song "Hearteater" was officially released by Onfroy's estate.[128
Onfroy had two half siblings – an older sister named Ariana and a younger brother named Aiden.[129][130] Onfroy lived in Florida and lived with rapper Denzel Curry and producer Ronny J in the past.[44][30][131] Before his death, Onfroy was moving into a 6,000-square-foot (560 m2) mansion in Parkland, Florida, which he bought, in November 2017, for US$1.4 million.[132] In February 2018, Onfroy posted on Instagram that he was preparing to return to school[133] and went on to announce in March 2018 that he was going to a community college to get his GED.[134] Onfroy was public about his struggle with depression.[135][136][137]
Onfroy's ex-girlfriend Geneva Ayala has accused Onfroy of torturous abuse. According to Ayala's statement, Onfroy beat her at times, choked her, broke clothes hangers on her legs, threatened to chop off her hair or cut out her tongue, pressed knives or scissors to her face, and held her head under water in their bathroom while promising to drown her.[138] “His favorite thing was to just backhand my mouth,” Ayala says. “That always left welts inside my lips.”[139] The first incident of domestic violence occurred when Onfroy slapped Ayala and broke her iPhone 6S, because she had complimented a male friend on his new jewelry, Onfroy later repaired the phone.[140] In one incident recounted to a prosecutor, Ayala said Onfroy asked her which object she wanted him to force into her vagina: a long-handled barbecue fork, or a wire barbecue brush, she chose the fork and Onfroy told her to undress. Onfroy was lightly dragging the tool against her inner thigh when she passed out, he did not penetrate her with it.[141][140] Onfroy would often guilt her with near-attempts at suicide. Ayala said he used to fill a bathtub with water then fetch the microwave and dangle it over, threatening to let go. Another time he reportedly dangled himself from a 12th-storey balcony by his legs and threatened suicide again.[142]
Before his death, Onfroy entered a relationship with Jenesis Sanchez.[143] Three days after his death, Onfroy's mother announced on Instagram that Sanchez was pregnant with his child.[144] The baby was confirmed to be a boy on August 22, 2018,[145] and his family had confirmed that it was Onfroy's wishes to call his child "Gekyume" if it were a boy and Xiorra if it were a girl[146][147] after a word his father made up meaning "a different state or next universe of thought."[148] Gekyume Onfroy was born on January 26, 2019, three days after what would have been his father’s 21st birthday.[149]
Gun possession charges in 2014
In 2014, Onfroy was sent to a youth detention center for a year on gun possession charges.[13][10] According to Onfroy, during his time in detention, the district attorney was attempting to try him as an adult for gun possession. Charges which Onfroy said, would have had a sentence of 5–10 years in prison.[10]
Robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and home invasion charges in July 2016
In July 2016, he was arrested and charged with robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and home invasion.[45][46] According to the arrest report, Onfroy entered the home of Che Thomas with three other people, armed with a firearm. After pistol-whipping Thomas three times, Onfroy escaped the home with an iPad, an iPhone, a Sony PlayStation Portable and $20.[150] Onfroy was arrested in Orlando originally until he was transferred to Orange County.[27]
False imprisonment, witness tampering, and domestic abuse charges in October 2016
After posting the bail of $10,000[151] in early October of the same year, while awaiting trial, the rapper was arrested again later that month on charges of false imprisonment, witness tampering, and aggravated battery of a pregnant victim.[47][152] On March 26, 2017, Onfroy was released from jail on bail[56][153] while facing charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. His trial for aggravated battery of a pregnant victim was originally going to take place in May 2017 and was pushed back several times, and was set to take place on October 5, 2017.[154] On September 8, 2017, Pitchfork leaked the testimony of the victim in Onfroy's aggravated battery case.[155] The trial was then delayed again[156] with a date of December 11, 2017, announced.[157] Controversy arose once again following Onfroy's choice to donate $100,000 to domestic violence prevention programs,[158] and then further when Onfroy announced an event to support rape victims though it was later canceled due to vandalism.[159]

Onfroy's mugshot in December 2017
Onfroy's trial was delayed again after an affidavit was filed asking for the charges to be "completely dropped".[160] The victim in the case also declined to testify in court. In reaction, the prosecution moved to split the case into two, with witness tampering charges filed against Onfroy and a new trial date announced for December 15, 2017.[161] On December 10, 2017, Onfroy posted a message to Instagram, writing "Court date is on the 15th 9:00 am here is my court information, if I am taken into custody, I want to tell everyone I've let down I apologize, I tried my best, I really did ...";[162] he then released the information of the court hearing.[163]
Onfroy pleaded not guilty on December 14, 2017, and was taken into pretrial custody after a motion was filed by the prosecution on the grounds of Onfroy having violated his bond.[164] He was held without bail.[165] It was confirmed on December 20, 2017, that Onfroy was being released on house arrest.[131] Onfroy was released from house arrest on March 21, 2018.[166]
Snapchat video controversy
Shortly after being released from house arrest, a Snapchat video surfaced of Onfroy hitting a woman in 2013.[167] Onfroy's attorneys claimed the video, which features a caption written by the woman that sardonically reads “I hate this nigga” along with Onfroy dancing to some music before striking the girl, was "obviously ... in jest".[168] Onfroy claimed afterwards that he was afraid he was going to be financially extorted by the woman and that members of her family had already called him requesting money.[169] The woman shown with Onfroy in the video came forward several days later saying she was "terrified for her life";[170] however, according to TMZ, Onfroy intended to sue the woman for fraud and defamation after her family allegedly demanded a large sum of money in exchange for her silence.[171] The woman later released a statement saying that the version of events described by Onfroy was correct, and that she "hope[d] that people see the video in the playful context in which it was recorded and nothing more".[172] His domestic abuse charges, which he was awaiting trial for, were dropped following his death.[173]
Leaked audio of confession to domestic abuse and a stabbing incident
On October 23, 2018, Pitchfork released secretly recorded audio of Onfroy talking with acquaintances around the time of his October 8, 2016, arrest. In the recording, he allegedly confessed to domestic abuse, and described an incident in which he stabbed nine people.[174] The tape was considered a confession by both the prosecution and defense.[174][175] One especially fraught conversation about Onfroy’s ex-girlfriend took place on the afternoon of October 26, 2016 when he told a woman, “I already got what I wanted, I already bashed her face—her face on the internet, bruh, I done made her look bad on the internet, bruh.” Later that day, an audio clip from the call was posted on Instagram of Onfroy saying he “bashed her face” without the hurried clarification.[176] On June 18, 2018, Onfroy was leaving the Riva Motorsports motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida, and, at 3:56 p.m., was blocked from exiting the car park by a black Dodge Journey SUV. Two armed men exited the SUV and approached the rapper while he was sitting in the driver's seat. A brief struggle occurred, and the armed men reached inside Onfroy's vehicle, stole a small Louis Vuitton bag containing $50,000, and shot Onfroy multiple times. The shooters fled the scene in their SUV and Onfroy was transported by paramedics to the nearby Broward Health North hospital in Deerfield Beach, where he was pronounced dead.[177][178] Onfroy's death was announced by the Broward County Sheriff's Office at exactly 5:30 p.m.[23][179] Suspect Dedrick Devonshay Williams of Pompano Beach was arrested two days after the shooting, shortly before 7 p.m. Held in the Broward County jail, he is charged with first degree murder without premeditation.[180] In the weeks following the event, three different people were arrested for their actions involved with the event, including trigger man Michael Boatwright.[181]
In his will, Onfroy named his mother Cleopatra and brother Aiden as the sole beneficiaries of his estate. Onfroy's future child, with whom his girlfriend at the time of his death was pregnant, was not named in the will as it was written before the pregnancy.[182]
Funeral
An open casket service for Onfroy took place at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida on June 27 where fans were allowed to pay their respects.[183][184] His private funeral took place on June 28 where rappers Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Yachty and singer Erykah Badu were among the attendees.[185] He was entombed in a mausoleum at Gardens of Boca Raton Memorial Park, Boca Raton, Florida.[1][186]
Well known for his "depressing, and at times devastating"[135] music that brought attention to mental health,[187] XXXTentacion employed styles and techniques that were unconventional in hip hop during his career, such as distortion[188] and heavy guitar-backed instrumentals drawing inspiration from third-wave emo.[189] This influenced fellow artists such as Lil Pump, Trippie Redd, Ski Mask the Slump God, Smokepurpp, Comethazine and 6ix9ine with the lo-fi mixing of his early career.[190] He was also credited with giving artists their first taste of fame and helping them with their careers through features and co-signs.[191][192][193] Onfroy left behind what Rolling Stone called "a huge musical footprint" due to his impact on his young fanbase and his popularity during his career.[194] Given his immense influence only to die young, the article compared his cultural impact with that of Ritchie Valens and Darby Crash.[194] The most notable aspects of XXXTentacion's appearance were his tattoos and his distinctive half-colored hair, which was inspired by The Hundred and One Dalmatians antagonist Cruella de Vil.[195]
On June 18, 2019, exactly one year on from Onfroy's death, an official documentary on his life was announced; it will feature footage of Onfroy from before his death telling biographical details.
Controversy
Onfroy's success as "a zeitgeist-grabbing, industry-defying, boundary-destroying phenomenon" is "overshadowed" by his reported abuse of his ex-girlfriend, and the latter is the focus of his life story.[194] Nonetheless, the article[clarification needed] contends that despite media attempts to suppress him, Onfroy's "impact on music will be felt for years to come" and his recordings have "helped signal a new era of post-streaming, post-genre teenagers".[194] Onfroy's personal life and history are also noted as prominent parts of his legacy.[135][194][196][197] An article in The Guardian described his legacy in more critical terms, stating that "[h]e will be remembered mostly for the unusually cruel violence he committed on vulnerable people, particularly his ex-girlfriend, crimes for which he never expressed remorse."[135] According to the article, his music "reflected a life lived with disregard for humanity, both other people's and his own"; and rarely attempted to engage in bravado or bragging, instead focusing on "mental illness, suicide, extreme misogyny, and a prevailing feeling of numbness."[135]
An article in The Atlantic expressed similar criticisms, though it also noted that Onfroy "reminded young fans in particular that their hurt was valid but that it did not form the sum total of their lives" and that he "gave voice to their insecurities."[196] Contrasting these elements of his legacy, the article acknowledged that though he spent his career encouraging young fans to recognize their greater worth, Onfroy's legacy is nonetheless characterized by the trauma he both experienced and caused.[196] In The Washington Post, Chris Richards commented on Onfroy's complicated legacy, contrasting how he "encouraged his fans to find hope in the fog of their despair, but bragged enthusiastically about the joy he felt in brutalizing others."[197] According to Richards, Onfroy's music "brought solace to the depressed" while validating the sort of violence he practiced and legitimized the pain of his fans while erasing the suffering of domestic violence victims.[197] Onfroy's music serves as an example for Richards of how "a hateful song" might normalize such feelings in "hateful people," which contributes to the profound paranoia in society about the hatred that might be in the minds of others.[197]

2019.06.17 20:29 mrtoddw Sarasota 18-30 year old's Starter Guide v1.0

Congratulations on your choice (possibly poor choice /sarcasm) to pick Sarasota to start your new life. The purpose of this guide is to navigate those not used to Florida and the Sarasota area to activities and locations you’ll most likely want to enjoy living here. Sarasota and Florida, in general, are seen as a retirement area, so activities for younger people don’t get the same market share exposure. This guide is intended to be open-ended and allow for other users to comment below with their additions and thoughts. This guide is not intended to be an exhaustive guide but a list of places and things you’ll want to find in our area. Feel free to skip portions that don’t apply to yourself. As with absolutely ANYTHING, (Your Mileage May Vary).

Housing

If you’re fresh out of your parent's house moving here for either school or just because you threw a dart at a map, likely you’ll need somewhere to live. Budgets may vary wildly depending upon how much you’ll be making and how many roommates you’ll be willing to live with. To make this guide the most available, I’ll make listings here to find rentals under $1,300/month. Realize, the more you pay in rent, the more availability opens up.

If you’re moving here alone and don’t know anyone:

Housing tips:

The housing market here has a lot of "invisible lines" that will greatly affect cost and availability. Very generally, everything West of 41 is extra pricey, and Lakewood Ranch is kinda like Stepford Wives but good for families.

Food

At some point, you’re going to get hungry. The cost of living is rather low here and food being some of the lowest prices in the country. I’ll split this into two parts, restaurants and grocery stores. Since food tastes are broad, this is only a sampling of cuisine types. The Amish are down here and their cooking is divine.

Seafood tips:
You're almost always better off ordering fresh catch from the blackboard. A little knowledge of local fish can go a long way in helping you to avoid frozen crap shipped here from. Halfway around the world (which is, surprisingly, the majority of seafood sold even here). Some of the most popular and delicious local catches that you might not be familiar with are Pompano, Cobia, Hogfish and Tripletail.

Restaurant tips:
Visit the most popular places after 8pm. Baby boomers tend to be done with dinner by 7pm generally. St. Armands really cranks up after 8pm, same with Siesta Key.

The food here in Sarasota suffers greatly from the terrible feedback of old people whose tastes aren't compatible with anything bold, creative or spicy. Their complaints slowly turn the food at a lot of places here toward bland, over-salted denture fodder. This is especially true for ethnic restaurants, which are, on average, far superior just up the road in Bradenton where demographics are different.

Marijuana

Florida has medical marijuana. If you are over the age of 18 with a qualifying condition and medical history along with residency, you can get a recommendation for medical marijuana. If you’re here temporarily, you’re out of luck. Residency, all that’s required to prove is change your ID or a bill showing your new address.
What is a qualifying condition?
Also qualifies:

Go see a doctor or even a specialty doctor that only does recommendations. Get a recommendation. Pay the fees, buy the weed. It literally is that easy.

Soak up as much time there as you can in May and October when the weather is nice but the Snowbirds are still away.

Notes about the Amish: 🏛️🤝The Amish have established a snowbird community in Sarasota. Pinecraft is the original vacation community established by the Amish since at least the mid-70s. Many Amish owned businesses are listed here. The Amish have always benefited very positively to the Sarasota community and are very culturally significant to the area.

Discussion about the Amish: https://www.reddit.com/sarasota/comments/b5r5oo/lets_talk_amish/

Pinecraft is a place where Amish actually live. It's not a museum nor are they cosplaying. The Amish are very friendly and I've never had an issue asking anyone questions about the Amish lifestyle. It's not a place to go like a museum but it's important to know it's there.

Weather

Sarasota is a humid subtropic climate. (Hong Kong is similar) We have two major seasons, a wet and a dry season. We technically have all four seasons. Due to both where we sit on the line of latitude 27.34 °N, the longest day is 13:52:03 (Jun 22nd) and the shortest is 10:25:01 (Dec 22nd) and the lack of trees that lose leaves during the fall, you'd be hard pressed to notice it was fall or winter down here. The average weather is 82° and sunny.

June - Sept is the hottest part of the year. It's on average 95°, near 100% humidity 24/7 during this time of the year. The sun going down doesn't reduce the temperature. Staying out of the sun from 11 am until 4 pm is vital during this time. If you see someone outside past 11 am, they're either a tourist or someone who has to work. The Farmers Market is a ghost town by 10:45 am.

Hurricanes🌀:

We have hurricane season from June - November every year. The chances a hurricane will hit Florida during the hurricane season is essentially 100%. Preparing every year as if you will contend with a direct strike category 3 hurricane is a wise idea. There are essentials to staying alive and safe during this season. We are trying to compile the best list of shelters and evacuation routes as possible. We will link to official sources along with posting the information here.

Evacuation:

Sarasota has 5 levels of flood evacuation. These levels are: A, B, C, D, & E. The lowest laying zone is A and is 1st to evacuate.

Hurricane Evacuation Routes/ Sarasota Flood zone Map (⛑️🌊):
https://ags3.scgov.net/knowyourlevel/

The most important part of hurricane preparedness is knowing if you should evacuate or shelter in place. The safest advice would be, if you don't feel you will be safe in your home during a hurricane, evacuate. The last thing you want is to be stuck on Interstate 75 when it makes landfall. You'll have at LEAST 3 days notice that a hurricane is coming. If where you're living falls in flood zones: A & B, evacuation as part of your hurricane preparedness. We would advise you to seek shelter with friends and family inland. If you moved here by yourself and don't know anyone, hurricane shelters are available. Keep in mind, hurricane shelters are LAST RESORT. Don't show up to a shelter until it's been announced it's been opened as well.

Newspapers

The biggest problem with newspapers and reading them is you don't know who they're owned by. There are four major newspapers in the area. Two newspapers are locally owned and two are out of state-owned. Three of the newspapers are owned by corporations and only one, Bradenton Times is owned by a private, local individual.

2019.03.05 03:39 mothman83 Weird light and "booming" Sound Phenomena in Broward County Florida. Wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar?

So to get things out of the way I do not believe in the paranormal broadly defined ( though I was intensely interested in UFO's in my childhood and still like reading about the subject ( hence my username, which has been my username for all seven years I've been on this site)... perhaps cause my birthday is Halloween) I am a tax attorney with an LLM a J.D and two master's degrees ( econ and political science like it matters) before that. I am an Agnostic Deist, I don't believe in the immortality of the soul, and I am basically a pretty extreme skeptic who has debunked a couple of stories on this forum before. Alcoholism runs in my family and so I grew up in a dry home where no one drank except on New Year's and to this day my alcohol consumption consists of a beer or two every other month when I am hanging with friends in a social setting where drinking is unavoidable. I do absolutely no drugs except for caffeine, and my only psychological diagnosis is General Anxiety Disorder ( but what lawyer doesn't have that?). As far as I know I have never experienced sleep paralysis or any other hallucinations of any kind.

Every tuesday night I attend a mindfulness meditation session at a location located on a strip mall abutting a very busy highway ( I-595 for you South Florida folks) . This basically consists of sitting in a darkened room and turning your mind " outward" . You focus on your breathing as much as you can and when your mind wanders you anchor it on something else until you can bring it back to your breathing ( in my case the sound of the AC in the room). You do this with your eyes closed. The goal is to still the chatter of your mind by instead focusing your mind as much as possible on the external world.

We sit facing a wall that has no windows but there are windows on the left side ( ie on the wall that would be on our left as we sit) these windows abut the interstate and though they are draped light can come in because there is no light at all in the room so if say a cop car or ambulance goes by the flashing lights can be perceived in the room . This kind of distraction is one of the reasons we keep our eyes closed for 90 minutes.

The location is in what I have described as a strip mall but it would be more precise to say it is a one story low lying office building with small businesses ( barber shops , dental clinics and the like) facing the road. We meet relatively late at night ( 9p.m) and every other locale is usually empty . Immeadiately behind the location is a storage facility.

In early December of last year myself, the meditation leader and 8 or 9 others were doing our normal thing when this phenomenon happened. about ten minutes into the meditation I saw through my closed eyelids 3 flashes of yellowish light spaced about a minute apart. IMMEDIATELY ( this is key) afterwards, and i really mean simultaneously I heard a deep booming sound accompany each flash of light. The sound lasted exactly as long as the light, a period of definitely more than a second but not longer than 2-3 seconds. Then about 20 minutes later it happened again. Three flashes of light, three simultaneous booms each separated by perhaps a minute.

The closest analogue I can think of what I heard and sounded like was transformers blowing. About 20 years ago we were hit by a category one hurricane and for whatever reason we decided not to put up the storm shutters. I witnessed a transformer blowing a couple of blocks away and the sound was similar, except that the light was green and " pulsed" which I did not witness in my phenomenon which had solid light.

Still at the time I thought that The transformers on the street in front of us had blown for some reason.( in the time since I have confirmed there are no transformers near this location, but that is what my mind concluded I was experiencing as it happened) So I was surprised when at the end of the session we where able to turn the lights on. I looked outside and all the lights where on. There were no sirens and no emergency lights nor emergency vehicles, nor did I see any power company trucks later on my way out, nor anything that resembled a blackout on the drive home.

At that moment I thought maybe the meditation had somehow unlocked synesthesia? and that my brain Had provided the flash of light as a response to a booming sound that was maybe something heavy beign dropped ( repeatedly?) in the storage facility. But I was immeadiately skeptical as the instructor had told us not to expect the meditation to cause any new abilities or open a third eye or anything like that. Plus again I have never experienced hallucinations nor synesthesia nor has anyone in my family as far as i know.

I waited until the instructor and only one fellow student were left. I asked them if they had heard the noise and the confirmed they had... then both confirmed they had seen the yellow light appearing simultanously with each of the six booms. Neither one had any notion what it was.

Now again note that the sound took place at the SAME time. I am sure that I would have noticed if there was a space of more than say 1/5th of a second between the sound and light. Given that sound travels at 400 meters per second ( rounded up for simplicity) this mean that the source of the sound and the light could not have been more than 250 feet from us . But we got out of the place everything was completely normal. The only things within 250 feet of us would have been the rest of the building, the parking lot of the building, the stretch of I-595 directly in front of us, and the storage location directly behind. The instructor and the other student could not recall such a sound ever before in all the time they had been there ( six years for the instructor) nor have any similar lights or sounds reoccurred in the months since.

I put this out of my mind until exacactly a week ago . I went into the office on sunday as I had a case in court this week and had to wrap up some paper work. I found my " go to " paralegal there ( the one that gets things done and I prefer to work with ) working on my case and a couple of other attorneys cases . Since we were the only ones on that side of the office we got chatty as we worked together and she started talking about things she likes to do with her boyfriend. She told me not to judge her but said she and her boyfriend had gone on one of those bigfoot hunting expeditions once( they did not see anything) . I laughed and told her that as a child I was into UFO's. Expanding on the topic I described the above incident and she stopped me and said " I know exactly what that is ". I asked her to explain .

The paralegal's story:

she and her boyfriend were in bed ( she did not specify the date apart from some months before) when a long yellowish flash acommpanied by a deep " sonic boom like sound'" occured . She stated that like in my case the sound arrived at the same time as the light, so they knew immeadiately that it was not atmospheric phenomena like a sonic boom caused by a meteor nor was it an echoing sound from a firework or something similar. The boyfriend thought a car crash had happened in the street below so he went to the window to check it out. Her apartment is on the fifth floor, in front is a Wells Fargo bank/ office building with reflective windows, and beyond that US 1 a busy street ( note again the busy street nearby).

He peered down and saw nothing off, which puzzled him. He was there scrutinizing the street when... it happened again and he saw it. According to her, He says that above the street, in the middle of the street, about the height of the second storey, a " yellow sphere" appeared for a couple of seconds, while the same deep booming sound happened. He says it looked like an " explosion that only expanded maybe three-to four feet across, and then held steady for a couple of seconds and then contracted as fast as it expanded back into nothing ness". the object held steady at the point of maximum expansion for 2 seconds or so, just long enough that he could directly see it in the air hovering over the street and ALSO see it reflected on the mirrored reflective windows of the office building directly across. He called her over to look out with him to see if it happened a third time but it never did.

The apartment where my paralegal's boyfriend saw this is in Pompano Beach florida, perhaps eight to ten miles from where my experience took place .

I asked her what she thought it was . her response: " I think it was something coming across, like from another dimension, or perhaps going back".

I replied that I thought that was an interesting idea and we got back to work. At the end of the day she thanked me for sharing my story with her, because now she knew her and her boyfriend were not alone.

I spent yesterday looking up stuff on this and it turns out that flashes of light accompanied by popping or booming sounds are reported immeadiately before and after some Bigfoot cases , but it is ESPECIALLY common immediately before and after MIB ( men in black) sightings and BEK ( black eyed kids) sightings.

Like something coming across from another dimension.

The thought that something like that ( especially Black eyed kids, a concept that I find deeply unnerving) could have popped in an out within a block of me in December... well I don't like it.

Have any of you heard of or experienced such a thing?

2019.02.08 15:32 assessment_bot [ Non-Fatal ] [ 12/17/2018 ] Cessna 152, Bell Glade/ FL

On December 17, 2018, about 1210 eastern standard time, a Cessna 152, N4886B, experienced a partial loss of engine power and was substantially damaged during a forced landing in a plowed field near Bell Glade, Florida. The private pilot and pilot-rated passenger were uninjured. The airplane was registered to Troupial Aviation and operated by Orange Wings Aviation as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident and no flight plan was filed for the cross-country flight. The flight originated from Lakeland Linder Regional Airport (LAL), Lakeland, Florida around 1035 and was destined for Pompano Beach Airpark (PMP), Pompano Beach, Florida.
According to the pilot, they departed LAL and climbed to a cruise altitude of 5,500 ft mean sea level (msl) for the flight to PMP. After the initial descent and level-off at 2,500 msl, the engine gradually began losing power. He applied carburetor heat which initially restored cruise power. Several minutes later another partial loss of engine power occurred, accompanied by engine vibration. The pilot applied carburetor heat, however the engine continued to lose power and the airplane was unable to maintain altitude. He declared an emergency and elected to execute a forced landing to a plowed field. He completed the emergency checklist with the passenger, and then performed a soft field landing. During the landing rollout, the airplane flipped over shortly after the nosewheel made ground contact.
Examination of the wreckage by a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector revealed that the airplane was intact and came to rest inverted at the edge of the field. The top of third of the vertical stabilizer was fractured and bent about 80 to the left. The right horizontal stabilizer and elevator were impact damaged. One propeller was bent aft with little or no chordwise scratching.
The engine was examined at the direction and under the supervision of an FAA inspector after it was recovered to the operator's facility. During the examination the inspector noted that the upper valve spring seat on the No. 1 cylinder was broken.. The cylinder was retained for further examination.
According to FAA airman records, the pilot held a private pilot certificate with a rating for airplane single-engine land. The pilot was issued a first-class medical certificate on January 6, 2017, with the limitation "must wear corrective lenses." According to the pilot's logbook, he had accumulated 66.3 hours of flight time, all of which were in the accident airplane make and model.
According to FAA airworthiness records, the airplane was manufactured in 1979. It was equipped with a Lycoming O-235-L2C, 110-horsepower engine that drove a fixed-pitch propeller. According to airplane maintenance logbooks, the most recent 100-hour inspection was completed on November 16, 2018, at that time the airframe had accumulated 3657.9 total hours of operation. A separate log maintained by the operator showed that the airplane had flown about 45 hours since that inspection.

Jan. 17, 2019 James V. Baker
Trulieve was the first licensed cannabis company in Florida.
“Trulieve Marijuana Millionaires” are replacing Quincy’s “Coca-Cola Millionaires”.
Trulieve is a profitable, vertically integrated company in a sector gushing red ink.
Unlike other cannabis companies, Trulieve generates significant positive operating free cash flow.
At the end of 2018, Florida had 209,940 registered medical marijuana users, and 700+ new users were registering every day.
Author's update, January 21, 2019: A recent filing by Trulieve with the Canadian Securities Exchange showed a change in the number of SUB shares outstanding. I, therefore, updated the share data in the article in paragraph 2 and 4 of the Lock-up Considerations Section to reflect the new numbers. Trulieve is adding about 10,000 new customers a month to its 120,000+ customer base. Trulieve accounts for about 67% of all medical marijuana sales in Florida The "official head office" of Trulieve (OTCPK:TCNNF) is in Quincy, Florida, which at one time was known as the richest town per capita in the United States. Quincy earned that reputation during the Great Depression of the 1920s and 1930s when a banker named Pat Munroe urged everyone he knew to buy Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) shares. He was convinced that Coca-Cola would be a huge success, because he noticed people were willing to spend their last nickel to buy a bottle. He was so convinced about Coca-Cola's bright future that he told people he would lend them money to buy the stock. He was a trusted banker, and many townspeople took his advice.
At least 67 people amassed significant fortunes, and they became known worldwide as Quincy's "Coca-Cola Millionaires." A single share bought during the depression for $20 is worth more than $10 million today, and its owner would be receiving about $300,000 a year in dividends.
Perhaps history is repeating itself, and future generations will talk glowingly about Quincy's "Trulieve Marijuana Millionaires." Interestingly, it would do wonders for Quincy's fame if Coca-Cola changed its corporate position on marijuana, joined the cannabis feeding frenzy and bought Trulieve!
Florida Law on Cannabis Use The Florida legislature enacted the Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act (CUA) effective June 16, 2014, Chapter 381.986, Florida Statutes, which allowed the sale of "low-THC cannabis" (below 0.8% THC) to patients diagnosed with severe seizures or muscle spasms and cancer. Concurrently, the Florida Department of Health adopted Chapter 64-4, Florida Administrative Code, to implement the ACT.
The 2016 Florida Legislature passed House Bill 307, which among other things, amended CUA to allow sales of full-strength marijuana, termed "medical cannabis," to only terminally ill patients who had been diagnosed by two physicians. That Bill was codified at Sections 381.986 and 499.0295 of the Florida Statutes effective March 25, 2016.
Florida citizens seeking treatment were not satisfied with their access to medical marijuana under the 2014 and 2016 legislation. Accordingly, an amendment to add medical marijuana access to the Florida Constitution was put on the 2016 general election ballot (Amendment 2). On November 8, 2016, 71.3% of Florida voters approved that constitutional amendment. Floridians' right of access to medical marijuana now appears in Article X, Section 29 of the Constitution, which is titled "Medical Marijuana Production, Possession and Use."
Unlike other constitutional amendments, the voters directed the executive branch on its role in implementing the access of qualifying patients to medical marijuana. Specifically, the amendment set forth the actions the Department of Health was to take in setting up the registry for qualifying patients and their certifying physicians. The amendment also stipulated guidelines to register those involved in growing and providing patients with the medical marijuana needed for treatment. Voters inserted in the Constitutional Amendment a proviso prohibiting the legislature from enacting any provision inconsistent with the voter-adopted unlimited access system.
In 2017, the Florida legislature passed SB 8-A, a 48 page statute known as the medical marijuana implementing bill. It was signed into law by Governor Rick Scott on June 23, 2017. Among other things, the 2017 Law established limits on the number of growers, number of dispensaries, location of dispensaries and prohibited the sale and consumption of buds/flowers. It also prohibited residents from growing their own marijuana.
Process for People to Obtain Marijuana in Florida Under Florida's 2017 law, only Florida residents are eligible to obtain medical marijuana. A resident is required to see an approved physician and be diagnosed as having a qualifying condition. The physician makes their determination based on examining the person and reviewing their medical history. The physician then certifies the patient by notifying the Florida Department of Health, Office of Medical Marijuana Use of their diagnosis and stipulates the types of administration (e.g. topical, oral, inhalation) and number of milligrams per day a patient can obtain under the program.
A physician's order is valid for 70 days and must be refreshed by the physician with the Office of Medical Marijuana Use. All physician certifications expire in 210 days.
Physicians typically charge $250 to make an initial diagnosis, $100 for each 70 day follow-up and another $250 for a 210 day re-certification. A Florida resident who uses medical marijuana for a full year can therefore expect to pay physician fees of $900 in a one year period. Physicians normally accept credit cards.
Following their initial diagnosis, a patient completes a Florida Department of Health, Office of Medical Marijuana Use application and transmits that form along with $75 and a copy of their Florida driver license to Tallahassee. The application can be completed online and the registration fee can be paid with a credit card. An applicant usually receives their patient registry identification card within two weeks, and the card is good for one year from the date of issuance.
Per the aforementioned amounts, Florida residents have to pay about $325 before they get any medical cannabis ($250 to Physician + $75 to State). On their first trip to the dispensary, a patient is likely to spend about $150 for a one month supply of medical marijuana. A patient will therefore have to spend about $475 to get their first medical marijuana product.
If the average patient spends $150 per month at a dispensary, then during a year of use, they will spend $2,775 as follows: $900 going to physicians, $75 to the State and $1,800 ($150 per month) for medical marijuana. These outlays are not covered by insurance; therefore, medical marijuana use in Florida is costly.
Only cash payments are accepted at dispensaries and all purchases are recorded by the Florida Department of Health, Office of Medical Marijuana Use. The number of milligrams dispensed, the category of cannabis (either low-THC or medical cannabis) and the type of product (tincture, ointment, etc.) are all recorded in the Florida Department of Health registry for each patient transaction.
Typical Florida Dispensary The layout of a typical Florida medical marijuana dispensary is similar to a jewelry store with display cases surrounding sales personnel. Current activity in a Florida dispensary is like that experienced decades ago in banks on payday when workers received actual checks and went to banks to cash them.
Sales people in a dispensary stand behind waist-high display counters where they help customers select product, accept cash, and hand customers change along with their requested product. ATM machines are actually inside some dispensaries.
The dollar amount of business transacted in a dispensary dwarfs any traditional retail establishment. If there was one word to describe a Florida marijuana dispensary today, it would be "ka-ching."
Willie "The Actor" Sutton, an often convicted bank robber, when asked why he insisted on robbing banks once replied - "because that's where the money is." Well, if Willie were alive today, he would not waste his time robbing banks; instead, he would be targeting medical marijuana dispensaries in Florida.
It is intuitively obvious that federal law needs to be changed to permit use of credit cards to protect employees and customers at medical marijuana dispensaries. The presence of massive amounts of cash at a dispensary invites internal and external threats that require extreme vigilance. For this reason, dispensaries have armed security guards.
For those not wanting to use cash, they can use a mobile payment app, CanPay. This Colorado-based online payment service is available in Florida to buy Trulieve products in the dispensary or upon delivery. Orders are delivered by the Trulieve dispensary nearest to the patient in company vehicles. The customer can use cash or CanPay to pay the Trulieve driver for their marijuana product.
To handle its cash, Trulieve has established a relationship with a Florida state-chartered bank that is willing to accept its deposits. Banks in other states, where cannabis is legal, are reportedly converting from national charters to state charters, since the former are federally chartered and face severe potential penalties if they conduct any business with cannabis companies.
Cannabis Regulations in Florida Florida's 2014 Compassionate Care Act (CUA) created a competitive licensing structure allowing for one vertically integrated license to be awarded in each of five designated regions of the state. Applicants were restricted to nurseries that had at least 400,000 nursery plants in production and had been a registered nursery for at least 30 continuous years. Applicants also had to provide a $5 million performance bond. In addition to granting licenses, CUA also created the Florida state registry to track dispensations of cannabis.
The 2017 Law passed by the Florida Legislature provided for another four fully integrated licenses to be issued for every 100,000 patients added to the registry. They also limited license holders to a maximum of 25 dispensaries, but allowed them to add five more retail locations for every 100,000 patients added to the licensed entity's registry.
Dispensaries are only allowed to sell cannabis products derived from plants grown in Florida by licensed nurseries. There is no state-imposed limitation on the permitted size of cultivation or processing facilities, nor is there a limit on the number of plants that may be grown at a nursery.
Florida's First Licensed Medical Marijuana Company Trulieve, Inc. is a Florida corporation created when three large, family-run nurseries in northwest Florida united to obtain the sole, vertically integrated license to be awarded for the northwest Florida region. Trulieve was the brainchild of George Hackney Sr., the owner of Hackney Nursery in Quincy, Florida who conducted extensive research and determined medicinal marijuana could help people deal with illness. He realized there were only five nurseries in the northwest region of Florida that were qualified to apply for the CUA license. He then convinced Richard May of May Nursery in Havana, Florida and Thad Beshears of Simpson Nursery in Monticello, Florida that they needed to team up and submit an application.
On November 23, 2015, Trulieve, Inc. was awarded the first medical cannabis license by the State of Florida. It would become the first licensee to have cultivation facilities up and running; the first to serve a patient; the first to open a dispensary (July 2016); and, the first to make a home delivery.
Once their license was awarded, the nurserymen decided their expertise in cultivation and growing alone was not enough to build a successful firm. They decided they needed people who could plan, organize, lead and control the business. Accordingly, they hired Ms. Kim Rivers as CEO and Jason Pernell as COO.
Trulieve is now a vertically integrated "seed to sale" company that cultivates and produces all of its products in-house. It then distributes products to Trulieve-branded stores (dispensaries) throughout Florida, as well as directly to Florida residents via home delivery. Its private labeled, medical-grade cannabis products number 125+ SKUs, including nasal sprays, capsules, concentrates, syringes, topical creams, tinctures and vape cartridges. Trulieve, Inc. cultivates, produces and sells medicinal cannabis products throughout Florida.
The sale of smokable flower is not permitted under Florida law; however, cannabis flower can be sold in a tamper-proof container intended for vaporizing. Trulieve has developed and is selling a product that meets this requirement.
Edible products were authorized by the Florida Legislature in the 2017 Law and are pending rulemaking by the State Department of Health, which has held workshops regarding edibles but has not yet drafted the contemplated regulations. Hydrocarbon extracted products were also contemplated in the 2017 Law and are awaiting rulemaking by the Health Department.
On June 2, 2018, Trulieve, in anticipation of cannabis-infused edible products being approved, executed a Trademark Licensing Agreement with Bhang Corporation ("Bhang"). Pursuant to the Agreement and contingent upon approval by the Office of Medical Marijuana Use, Trulieve will manufacture the Bhang edibles line of cannabis products and distribute those products in Trulieve stores. Bhang has developed an award-winning line of cannabis chocolate bars as well as gums and mouth sprays.
Florida Marijuana Laws are Changing Only companies licensed by the Florida Department of Health are currently allowed to grow marijuana in the state. It is unlawful for any person to engage in the production, preparation, packaging, labeling or re-labeling, propagation, compounding, cultivating, growing, conversion or processing of cannabis in Florida whether for personal use or sale.
Florida municipalities are allowed to ban dispensaries within their jurisdiction. Municipalities that prohibit dispensaries in southeast Florida include Jupiter, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Mangonia Park, Palm Beach Gardens, Royal Palm Beach, Pompano Beach, Sunrise, Margate and Coral Springs.
Numerous lawsuits have been filed in State courts against Florida's medical marijuana laws and plaintiffs have generally won. Court decisions frequently stated that laws imposed by the State thwarted the will of the people who had voted overwhelmingly to legalize the use of marijuana for medical purposes. The decisions in all these cases were appealed by the State of Florida during the administration of Governor Scott, and those appeals are pending.
One case decided on January 2, 2019, is particularly significant since it involves Trulieve. Judge Karen Gievers of the Florida's 2nd Judicial Circuit in Leon County in the case of George Hackney, Inc., d/b/a Trulieve as Plaintiff v Florida Department of Health as defendant rendered Judgment for Trulieve. The judge ruled that Florida's Constitution does not allow the State to determine the number of dispensaries that a company can have. Judge Gievers stated Trulieve "is entitled to be registered and operate as many (locations) as it wishes." In her ruling, she stated the Department of Health and the Legislature had failed to comply with the voter approved amendment and the 2017 Law was unconstitutional.
If the above Trulieve ruling stands and the new administration in Tallahassee drops all the appeals the State filed in marijuana cases, then Florida will be flooded with medical marijuana. The number of growers, extractors, distributors, dispensaries and consumers will increase dramatically. Edibles will explode onto the market along with actual flower.
All indications are that decisions on the appeals will soon be made in Tallahassee. Speaking to reporters after an inaugural event on January 5th, then Governor-elect Ron DeSantis said his early actions will include announcing his administration's stance on the medical marijuana lawsuits. At the same time, Governor DeSantis said he is not committed to upholding Florida's ban on smoking medical marijuana and that he will make an announcement on that matter within a week or two.
Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez recently said Governor DeSantis is considering a number of options, including dropping the appeals. Additionally, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (a former medical marijuana lobbyist) is on record favoring the transfer of medical marijuana regulation from the Department of Health to the Department of Agriculture.
Trulieve shareholders would likely benefit the most if Judge Gievers' ruling is not appealed, but all the other appeals are allowed to continue. Trulieve could then establish dispensaries throughout Florida without fear of new competitors entering the medical marijuana space. The fact is that Trulieve has done extremely well and has benefited greatly from Florida's current medical marijuana laws.
Trulieve Cannabis Corporation Formed in Reverse Merger At the present time, there are almost 400 publicly traded cannabis companies and fewer than 20 trade on the major U.S. Exchanges. Almost all the companies trade on either the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) or the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE) and are cross-listed on the over-the-counter market (OTC) in the United States.
The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) no longer allows their listed companies to engage in the cannabis business in the U.S. As a result, in 2018, Aphria divested Liberty Health Sciences, a vertically integrated medical marijuana company in Florida, to stay listed on the TSX.
In the past, investors have tended to distrust companies that listed their securities on foreign stock exchanges. The truth is that U.S. investment and commercial banks have shied away from cannabis companies because of cannabis being categorized as an illegal substance at the federal level.
Increasingly, cannabis companies that want to get shares listed on an exchange are turning to Canada and utilizing the reverse takeover strategy. While viewed with suspicion by some investors, this method speeds up and simplifies the process of going public. Furthermore, a number of Canadian cannabis companies, including Tilray (TLRY), Cronos (CRON), Canopy Growth (CGC), Aurora (ACB), and Aphria (APHA) have been able to migrate to the NYSE and NASDAQ after first trading in Canada.
Schyan Exploration Inc., a non-operating British Colombia company, merged its wholly owned subsidiary Subco with Trulieve, Inc., a Florida corporation, on September 21, 2018. Pursuant to the transaction, Trulieve, Inc. of Florida became a wholly owned subsidiary of Schyan Exploration, which changed its name to Trulieve Cannabis Corporation. Trulieve's "head office" is located in Quincy, Florida, but its "officially registered office" is in Vancouver, British Columbia.
In connection with the reverse merger, Trulieve Cannabis Corporation created three classes of common stock: Super Voting Shares (SVS), Multiple Voting Shares (MVS), and Subordinated Voting Shares (SUB). Schyan owners were given 200,000 SUB shares as payment for selling their corporation and 10,927,500 SUB shares were sold in a brokered private placement at C$6 per share. Buyers of issued 3,573,450 of the SUB shares immediately converted their shares into 35,734.50 MVS shares.
Canaccord Genuity Corporation (OTCPK:CCORF) and GMP Securities L.P. were the lead agents in the offering. The gross proceeds amounted to $50,625,000 (C$65,565,000) and after transactions costs resulted in net proceeds of $47,466,943. The investment bankers were granted 535,446 broker warrants exercisable at any time prior to September 21, 2020, permitting them to acquire an equal number of shares at a price of C$6.00.
In October 2018, 321,268 broker warrants were exercised. The total number of SUB shares available to trade immediately after the warrants were exercised was 7,875,314.
Trulieve shares are listed on the Canadian Stock Exchange (CSE) where they began trading on September 24, 2018, under the symbol TRUL. In the United States, Trulieve shares trade on the over-the-counter (OTC) market under the symbol TCNNF.
Management stated the money raised in the Trulieve offering was to fund added grow and production capacity, retire debt and finance expansion into new markets. The reverse merger created a market for otherwise illiquid Trulieve, Inc. shares owned by Quincy insiders who became multimillionaires while maintaining control. The general public received Subordinated (SUB) shares entitling them to one vote per share, while the insiders got Super Voting Shares (SVS) and Multiple Voting Shares (MVS) entitling them to 200 and 100 votes per share, respectively.
A total of 852,466 SVS shares were issued to Ms. Kim Rivers, Ben Atkins, Thad Beshears, George Hackney, Jason Pernell and Richard May who were all directors of Trulieve. A total of 170,102.50 MVS shares were issued to other Trulieve insiders. Each SVS share is convertible into one MVS share, and each MVS share is convertible into 100 SUB shares. Owners can convert their shares whenever they want; however, conversion of all these shares into SUB shares becomes mandatory on March 21, 2021. Owners of the SVS and MVS shares essentially paid about $44 million for those shares or about $0.43 per share based on Trulieve's capital and retained earnings at the time of the merger.
In addition to the SVS and MVS shares, 10,981,090 warrants were awarded to George Hackney, Jr., Jason Pernell, Craig Kirkland, Jordan Atkins, Ben Atkins and Kim Rivers in exchange for the Trulieve, Inc. warrants they were awarded in June 2018. The warrants are exercisable to acquire such number of SUB shares, in the aggregate, as is equivalent to 8.0% of the issued and outstanding share capital of Trulieve at an exercise price per share to be determined had Trulieve had a market cap value of US $500,000,000. The warrants are not exercisable until March 24, 2020.
If the owners of the SVS shares, MVS shares and warrants converted to SUB shares at the time of the public offering, they would have had 102,256,850 SUB shares or 93.12% of all SUB shares. Accordingly, SUB shares issued in the public offering, also known as the tradeable float, amounted to only about 7% of the Trulieve's equity.
The fact that the insiders maintain voting control and Trulieve only issued a small percentage of its common shares to the public is a trademark of companies going public during the past several years in the United States and Canada. Trulieve's percentage is not vastly different than Acreage Holdings or Tilray, which immediately following their IPOs had tradeable float percentages of 11% and 9.8% of their common stock, respectively. The existence of small float percentages does introduce the possibility of significant volatility in a stock price, especially in situations where investors either want to buy or sell a large number of shares.
Tilray, which has 81.7% of its equity owned by one holder, has been particularly susceptible to wild swings in its stock price. Its IPO was at $17, and it reached the mid-$30s in August 2018. However, on September 19, 2018, it traded at $300/share intraday before falling back to close at $214 per share.
Lock-Up Considerations The directors, officers and certain shareholders of Trulieve entered into 120-day lock-up agreements concurrent with the SUB offering. Such lock-ups are a normal part of public offerings. Investment bankers insist on lock-ups to prevent insider selling pressure, while they themselves are selling newly issued shares. The Trulieve lock-ups are scheduled to end 120 days following September 24, 2018, which was the escrow release date.
Following the closing of the public offering, a number of holders of MVS shares, who apparently were not covered by the lock-up proviso, converted to SUB shares such that on December 4, 2018 Trulieve reported 11,135,117 SUB shares outstanding. Accordingly, about 99 million shares will become eligible to sell on the CSE on January 25, 2019 when the lock-up expires. Unlike lock-up provisions contained in other IPOs, there were no limits imposed on the percentage of a Trulieve insider’s shares that they could sell at different intervals. By contrast, in the Acreage Holdings IPO a holder was limited to selling no more than 5% of their shares in the 2-4 month period after the IPO closing, no more than 15% in the 4-6 month period and 100% after 6 months.
In recognition of a looming problem on the lock-up expiration that would cause the stock to fall like a rock on insider sales, on January 16, 2019, Trulieve announced that the Company "founders" entered into voluntary lock-up agreements with the Company in respect to 75,510,694 subordinate voting shares (on an as-if converted basis), representing 68.6% of the subordinate voting shares of the Company, assuming the conversion of all issued and outstanding multiple voting and super voting shares of the Company. The voluntary lock-up agreements stipulate that these shareholders will not offer to sell, contract to sell or otherwise dispose of any Trulieve securities, or enter into any transaction to such effect, directly or indirectly, in addition to other restrictions, on or before July 25, 2019. In making this announcement, the CEO said the agreement was designed to show the confidence of the "founders" in future of Trulieve and their desire to take a responsible approach to managing its share float.
While these agreements provide some comfort, "non-founder" shares are not covered by the agreements. There are about 23.4 million shares owned by "non-founders" that, therefore, become available for sale on January 25, 2019. These "non-owner" shares are 2.1 times the current tradeable float of 11.1 million shares and equal 117 times average daily trading volume.
Investors normally expect a stock to decline in price whenever a lock-up expires. The extent of any decline is largely dependent on the number of shares sold relative to average daily trading volume. The tendency for people to sell when their lock-up expires is a function of their cost basis relative to the trading price and the percentage of their net worth in that stock. If a person has 95% of their net worth in a single stock and their cost basis is well below the market price, they will have a greater tendency to sell than a person who has only 10% of their net worth invested in that stock. People who have great wealth are also less likely to sell immediately following lock-up expiration.
Some investors actually look on lock-up expiration as a time to acquire stock at a depressed price caused solely by insiders selling to diversify their investments. Investors are also likely to be able to acquire a greater number of shares than they otherwise might because sale of lock-up shares increases the shares available in the market.
